The silk rug
In the mists of time, the origin of silk is lost, a precious natural yarn obtained from a fibre of animal origin and particularly appreciated for weaving. Worked in China as early as 3000 BC, the legend traces silkworm breeding to the Empress Xi Ling Shi.
Of course silk was used by the emperors, and then the nobles and the rich, luxury reserved for a few.
The silk soon conquered the whole world and, despite the first connoisseurs of this art that wanted to keep it secret, the production spread with centres of excellence all over the world, and in Europe already in the Byzantine era.
