From hand knotted to hand tufted – how the design changes
Hand-tufted is a construction technique of recent origin, which allows you to combine the tradition of the rug with the convenience of a more agile production, always handmade but easier to make than a hand-knotted one, and therefore less expensive in terms of work and final costs.
The rugs that are made are equally elegant but less demanding in terms of budget.
In the hand-tufted the design of the rug is initially transferred to a canvas. Herewith a special mechanical gun (called “drill gun”) a craftsman shoots the individual threads, which can be of wool or other fibers (viscose, Tencel, bamboo silk), to form the desired decor.
An additional protective layer will then be applied to the bottom to finish the product.
Among the advantages of this choice are the speed of production, the increasingly low price compared to the ancient technique, and a very precise definition of the patterns.

The case of an Interior Design Studio in Doha is emblematic: the creatives had chosen the motif “Design11” in the catalog Stories of Projects” by Platinum Custom Rugs to create a custom-made rug for their client’s private villa in Qatar, who had literally fallen in love with this hand-knotted linen rug.
The budget for it, however, was not in line with that type of product.
The style center of Platinum Custom Rugs has, therefore “translated” the original motif into a pattern that could perfectly adapt to the expressive possibilities of hand-tufted.
With this construction technique, it is not possible to achieve the same level of detail and shades of color, but the visual impact is guaranteed; also the color palette used remains the same. In the specific case, the yarn has also been changed, opting for wool, so as to have an equally satisfactory yield from the aesthetic point of view.

The colors are particularly bright and are inspired by the chromatic ideas that Venice offers during the carnival.
A rug like this is perfectly placed in a classic context, managing to renew its spirit thanks to the choice of an intense palette, but it can also find an excellent location in a modern, essential, and dominated by neutral tones; in a very bright environment, moreover, will constitute a focal point of color that will make it the undisputed protagonist of the room.
From the creative idea to the design, translating a concept into the language of weaving. This is how we create luxury rugs that are perfectly in tune with a general interior design idea.
