The Salone del Mobile 2023 from our perspective
Designing rugs and contemporary furnishings: between light and architecture
In 2023, rug design becomes the soul of furniture that wants to be more contemporary than ever. This is suggested by the new Salone del Mobile in Milan with its intimate relationships between light, architecture, art, and science, which we visited in preview. Let’s leave behind the E37 Stand, Hall 14 of our luxury rugs Platinum Custom Rugs and immerse ourselves in the corridors of the fair.
As we take our first steps among the set-up spaces, the desire to illuminate with warm hues – dove gray, anthracite, and sand – immediately catches the eye, soon to be the protagonists of the next interior design. Everywhere there is more daring with bold shades, while elsewhere, the pleasure of complementary colors masterfully combined with each other is rediscovered. These chromatic embraces suggest the courage and vision of new atmospheres that are particularly interesting for the near future.
But the Salone del Mobile is – and always has been – a laboratory of experimentation and contamination to give shape to its own suggestions. And this year too, the trends tell alternative worlds such as that of unique pieces for modular furniture. No more predefined sets of ready-to-integrate home environments, but furnishings created with different complements, each with its own style and identity, combined according to a truly personal idea of living. Each piece of furniture becomes unique and independent, takes on a totalizing importance, is deconstructed from the context but is designed to contaminate with the others. This is a trend that we already value greatly in our carpet design, creating luxury rugs with personalized designs, often in absolutely original and exclusive patterns for a specific interior.
And that’s not all: from the Salone del Mobile 2023 comes a fresh desire for freedom and naturalness, both in ideas and reality. The many proposals for outdoor living seen among the stands are a clear sign of a distinct change in trend in the post-Covid world. The focus is on what’s outside and what’s natural: furniture pieces made from recycled and recyclable materials or sustainable fibers are increasingly populating gardens and terraces. This desire to expand spaces and provide beautiful, sustainable, and enjoyable outdoor comfort is certainly a fundamental drive that is pushing companies to go down this path and us to enhance every carpet design for any environment.
