A low-pile rug for the meeting room

A concrete case demonstrates the importance, in rug design, of considering the rug’s intended use, going well beyond a general stylistic idea of the room itself, and seeking to create an accessory that will be an important element of the design for years.

An office’s meeting room has very particular usage needs as an area representing the company, but is also subject to heavy traffic.
Above all, the rug will be placed under table and chairs, which are very heavy causing major wear.
So, before the decoration and colours, it is important to consider the choice of yarn, focussing on the material but, even more specifically, on the construction technique and the pile thickness.

The goal is to find the best solution that balances both aesthetics and functionality, to create an object that will stay looking new for as long as possible, standing up to the stresses to which it will certainly be subjected.
The solution is a rug with a short pile, with as little thickness as possible to limit softness and, consequently, the crush, to prevent the pile from matting the first time it is used.

This was the choice made for the meeting room of a company in Northern Italy, which opted for a strong wool fibre with a hand-knotted weave, and with the decoration made of vegetable silk to enhance the shine, in line with the general interior design project.

The designer depended on information provided by our designers to lead the clients toward the best choice for the context.
Clients may have unrealistic expectations, desiring a particularly thick and soft rug, usually based on photos of layouts that are beautiful but highly impractical.
A personalized design, on the other hand, must consider every aspect of the rug’s use, in order to satisfy the client fully.
