A custom-made rug as a tapestry
The ancient tradition of tapestry, a large rug that covers the walls, even in the enormous changes of style is not completely lost in contemporary times and confirms its decorative function, as an extremely sought-after alternative to paintings and papers or walls fabrics.
Well-orchestrated communication choice, that of the owners of a villa in Abu Dhabi, who combine an element of ancient costume with a fashion soul, which is expressed in the choice of the subject.
The rug made for them, as a unique creation, comes from the design trend known as “Jungle”, a motif that has found expression in interior design but also in fashion, proposed in different versions, both by subject (large tropical foliage, colorful birds, especially parrots, but also fruits and other animals, such as monkeys, lemurs or large cats), both for the color palette.
Jungle inspiration for the “tapestry rug” in the living room
The private client, for his residence in the Arab Emirates, had dedicated a wall space of 140×240 cm, with vertical orientation, just as could happen for a work of art, and the carpet made for them, in natural silk, knotted by hand with oriental knot, is destined to assert itself as such.
The basic design, therefore, takes inspiration from the motifs of the bursting nature of tropical climates, with palm trees and large hibiscus flowers.
Here flamingos stand out, with a derogation from reality, in favor of a reference to a trend relaunched a few seasons earlier, which has ridden design at all levels of fashion.
The color palette revolves around the green of the forest, in a bright gradation and a sandier, tending to sage, in sharp contrast with the purple-red.
These two complementary colors reinforce each other and stand out on a light sand-colored background.
The general effect is extremely scenic, thanks to the arrangement of the tapestry in the center of a panel of the back wall, framed by an imposing frame that recalls the boiserie, highlighted by a golden profile.

A further reminder, the color points of the furniture, in a strictly black/white context, the rare furnishing elements act as a reference to the tapestry, as points of color.
Two seats take up the palette: a dark green velvet pouf and the purple-red padded sofa, perfectly in tune with the red palm detail, to recall the spectacular plumage of the great birds depicted on the wall.
From the creative idea to the design, translating a concept into the language of weaving. This is how we create luxury rugs that are perfectly in tune with a general interior design idea.
